We started our day the night before. Your cousin Padon came over and brought your Auntie Chloe, Uncle Walter and their dog Roadie. Benny had loads of fun playing with Roadie. You had fun playing with Padon.
The next morning, your birthday, we woke up extra early for our March of Dimes fundraiser walk. They are a charity to support and prevent the birth of premature babies. While we were waiting for everyone to meet at our house Uncle Walter helped you unwrap your 1st present.
Once the rest of the group met at our house, we loaded up into the van and hit the road. Daddy and Uncle Walter sat in the front. You and Padon sat in the middle. We loaded the strollers between the seats and the dogs in the back and then Chloe and I looked at each other and wondered how we would get to our seats now that all the entry points were blocked. We pulled the dogs back out and climbed over the seats. Daddy put the dogs back and away we went.
We arrived late, as is our usual style, and discovered that everyone else had hit the trail. We signed in and Auntie Jane took some great pictures.
There weren't any signs marking the start of the walk and the crowd had already left so we made a guess and headed in that direction. We wound up walking around the parking lot, completely missed the trail head and started at the end!
I think that we actually had more fun starting at the end because of all the people we meet. We adopted a woman named Tiffany who was also separated from her group. Since we started at the end we were able to see walkers and enjoy the party atmosphere that we would have missed if we spent the trip walking all by our selves. There were hot dog tables and dog treat areas and people taking group pictures. It was a lot of fun.
That is my rain coat draped across your stroller. You feel asleep thru most of the walk, so I covered you up with my rain jacket to keep you dry and warm. You even slept thru this group shot. I uncovered you so that you wouldn't miss the picture. It was fun despite the terrible weather. It snowed on us as we were loading into the van and it rained on us almost the entire time we were walking. You wore 2 hats, a snow suite, a fleece jacket, mittens and a blanket. One hat was big enough to cover your ears and the other was a special birthday hat. Your Auntie Chloe knitted you a crown. It is royal purple on the top, gold with rubies and an ermine trim. Very fancy. You also had a Birthday Boy pin and a very cool birthday balloon.
After the walk we went back home to celebrate. You were hungry and tired so we made a quick celebration. You ate some lunch and then Grandma Chris helped you unwrap your presents.
After such a long day, everyone was worn out. Even the dogs wore each other out playing.
We put you and Padon down for naps while the adults played Daddy's RockBand game.
The next day we opened Grandma Darlene and Pop's birthday present to you. It is a Radio Flyer Roadster. And it is cool.
Someday when the weather improves you'll get your birthday present from your Dad and I. It is a sand and water play table. I know you're going to love it.
We love you and hope that your next birthday will be as much fun as your first.
